EXERCISE & OXYGEN
EWOT vs. IHHT
Oxygen during exercise. Alternating oxygen at rest. Understand what changes before comparing the promises.
THE KEY DIFFERENCE
Conventional EWOT pairs exercise with oxygen-enriched air; IHHT alternates lower- and higher-oxygen phases, typically at rest. Some exercise systems also add a lower-oxygen phase, so check the actual protocol.

| What matters | EWOT | IHHT |
|---|---|---|
| Meaning | Exercise with oxygen therapy. A broad commercial term; individual setups and protocols differ. | Intermittent hypoxic–hyperoxic training. |
| Air pattern | Oxygen-enriched air during physical activity. | Alternating oxygen-reduced and oxygen-enriched air. |
| What you do | Exercise, commonly using a cycle or other training equipment. | Usually sit or recline during the exposure. |
| Equipment to evaluate | The oxygen source, delivery interface, and exercise setup. | The gas-delivery system, switching process, monitoring, and mask. |
| Research question | How does extra oxygen affect performance during a particular exercise test? | What does repeated oxygen variation do in a particular population and protocol? |
General method comparison. Individual devices, protocols, and intended uses vary.

the conclusion.
A controlled study found better cycling performance while healthy volunteers breathed oxygen-enriched air. That acute result does not validate every EWOT package or establish long-term health benefits. IHHT studies ask different questions; neither evidence base establishes a universal winner.

Decide whether you are evaluating an exercise session or a seated oxygen-exposure session. Compare the full experience, not only the oxygen source.
Match the evidence.
Ask whether the studied participants, equipment, and outcomes resemble your intended use. A study of one method cannot substantiate the other.
